Now you have a blog, so what do you do with it? Do you have traffic? Do you know how to build traffic to your weblog? There are seven proven methods for building a readership of any blog. The number one issue to consider is defining the purpose, or life, of your blog. Now that after you have a blog worth promoting, driving traffic is crucial to your ongoing success at blogging.

Here is the second of seven tips I will be writing about from the www.susannefzgerpr.com team to help you with advice on how to build and hold an audience for your blog.

Tip number 2: Blog on a regular basis. If you don’t update your blog often enough, blog readers will bccome bored without new information and move on to other blogs. Blog readers will go where they can find plenty of the information they want. Successful blogging as well as search engine optimization requires a commitment.

As you begin blogging and are attempting to capture an audience, you should be prepared to blog every day. This is how you develop an audience. This audience will who count on you to help them begin or end each day.  You should also try to post at the same time each day. Your readers will get accustomed to your schedule and check your blog at the appropriate time. The time of day is not as crucial as the consistency in your posting.

Now that you are building quality content and a regular posting schedule, it’s time to drive traffic to your blog. Your readers will do a lot to promote your blog just by telling their friends. Don’t count on this alone!

Make sure that when you post, set your blog to “ping”  –  thereby blog?tracking sites every time you add a new post. Think of this as a way to get their attention. The ping says “We just added a new post”. An alternative to automatically pinging from your blog is to use pingomatic.com. This is a one-stop place to automatically ping everyone you should notify about your new post and only takes a couple of minutes to complete.

Here is the first of seven tips I will be writing about from the www.susannefzgerpr.com team to help you with advice on how to build and hold an audience for your blog.

Tip #1: Provide quality content. On the Internet, most space is devoted to content. In the case of websites or blogs, search engines direct one to provide quality content. The quality of your blog’s content is directly related to the best definition of your audience. Also, consistently maintaining the definition is, as stated before, the most important thing.

A successful blog is written with a distinct audience in mind. In this way, you can provide content that is unique to your audience’s issues, needs, or desires. If you provide content that is liked and readers wish to return to the site, you have created quality content.

The second issue is to stay true to your audience and tone of your blog. If people are reading your blog, it’s because they like your topic and tone. Try not to stray from your typical topics and style too much. This will give your readers a reason to link back to your blog on an ongoing basis. Finally, as often as you blog on a regular basis, so will your readers.

Here at Susan Nefzger PR & Web Marketing, we are always so happy to hear when people are interested in working SEO angles themselves.

Here’s Why:  You are the expert on what you do! You are able to “spin” your products in the right direction in social networks. This means you can take your business to a level we never could without your knowledge. We know where and how, but not WHAT. We only know what you have told us or what is on your site.

Here’s How: A great way to to do this yourself is to search for blogs and other social networks where you can post or interact by searching for your keywords in Google. Just start clicking! Click on the results and see where those take you. Do you find links to blogs on those sites? Are there links to other social media sites? Are they actually social networks themselves? Be sure you are documenting these places where your users (yes, your users, we were just searching for your keywords so they are your users) Susan Nefzger PR can use these to help you establish in these networks later.

Start:  Establishing yourself by interacting in other spaces. If you start a profile in there, keep your keywords in mind at all times. What can you tell them about you that will help other socialites in your networks trust you?

Once you find a blog/site to post on or interact in, be sure that you are helping users, not pitching or selling your business product or service. You are there to help and nothing more. This builds trust. Trust brings sales and referrals! It will sell itself once you become a trusted adviser.

Hanging out online is not just for youth anymore. Customers are writing about products on blogs, reviewing businesses on Yelp, joining fan clubs on Facebook, and cutting up corporate commercials on YouTube in record numbers! It’s a social phenomenon – the groundswell – that is creating a permanent shift in the way the world works, plays, lives, and thinks.

The numbers speak in volumes when it comes to social media growth:

• 44 percent participate in a social media network such as Facebook, MySpace or Twitter
• 132 million unique users can be found on Facebook, more than double since 2007
• 30 percent watch user generated video on sites such as YouTube
• 25 percent of online users read ratings and reviews
• 11 percent write ratings and reviews.

As search engine savvy, online PR guru’s team, Susan Nefzger PR Company, knows the tactics that work best in this industry.

Published in 2008 by the leading company in online research, “Groundswell” is the number one recommended book by SEO/SEM professionals. Authors Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff, lead analysts at Forrester Research, define the social media groundswell as “a social trend in which people use technologies to get the things they need from each other rather than traditional institutions like corporations.”

One of the least expensive and most efficient ways to keep your web site current and the search engines happy is to continually update your site with fresh information, and not just in the press room.  We can help you with pr and visibility raising your Search Engine placement rank higher by continually writing blogs and releases and placing them on news sites. www.susannefzgerpr.com.

In our experience working with companies trying to improve their web site experience, we find that only about 10 percent of their website gets updated on a frequent basis, and a majority of the time those updates are made in the press room area.

So one of the first recommendations we make is to get that press room working for them. Crank up the RSS feed and start syndicating. The  Syndicating Press Room.

Don’t expect people to remember to periodically come to your website and scan through the pages to see if there’s no new information. Since a syndicating press room is built on a blog platform, every time new information is posted into the press room, it syndicates through an RSS feed which pings the search engines and notifying feed subscribers of new content. So it serves a dual purpose of driving search visibility and notifying your followers of new content.

There have been instances of “pure bliss response” when our clients have let their press contacts know that they now have an RSS feed and will take them off the email distribution list. Making your press contacts happy and keeping them current goes a long way toward building and maintaining relationships.
